I’ve spent a couple of weeks with this strap, and can confidently state that it is absolutely not full grain leather. There might be a thin layer of leather glued on each side, but it is mostly plastic. You can tie it in a knot and pull really hard, scratch it with a pick, fold it in half at a sharp angle, and it always pops back to “perfect” with no scratches or indentations. Also, you can see from a side view that 98% of the strap (outside of the facing surfaces) that it’s just a black piece of plastic. This “cultivated artisanal full-grain leather” claim is a total scam
That's edge coat! I'm really happy to hear that the leather is holding up to getting tied in a knot, scratched and folded at a sharp angle. This is because it is indeed Italian full-grain leather and a testament to its quality. It sounds like your strap is taking a beating and I'd hate for you to beat at it much more, but if you pick at the edges, you'll see that it's edge paint, not some sort of plastic center that is showing through. Painting the edges of leather pieces is a slow, tedious process - probably the least fun part of making the straps - and it's solely decorative. If you cut that strap in half, you would see the beautful leather throughout (or just look in the adjustment hole slots). My husband and I take great pride in every piece we make. I've been at this a long time and as I've learned more and more about leather, the meat industry and tanning practices, I'm also proud to say that our hides come from a humane, free-range farm in France that are then tanned at an environmentally-conscious tannery in Tuscany that does not use any harmful chemicals or heavy metals (they use chestnuts). I (Linny) personally made your strap and can assure you that it's made from our Tuscan leather that I import myself directly from an artisan tannery in Pisa. I stained your strap by hand and then painted its edges with a dark grey edge paint. I then rub on a layer of beeswax, buff it, and then use a beveling tool to cut off and round the bottom edge of the strap (for comfort). The top of your strap also has a layer of wax over it to protect the leather and stain. The underside of the strap is buffed on a sander to give it a more velvety feel. Very fine leather and quality brass hardware. The artwork is amazing and done very well. We have it hanging near our kitchen and it gets lots of compliments when people come over.

Remember though, they ARE for knives 210mm or smaller, MAYBE 215mm in a stretch, so make sure your knives will fit! Excellent customer service as well, I will be returning in the not-so-far future.
